Almost half way!!!

So here we are at 18 weeks!!! Who would have thought.

Where did the last month go? It's almost the end of January. Have you noticed or did it slip right past you too?

I have realised that I don't have alot of time to get organised. I mean, it seems like I have forever but the reality is, this 2nd little bundle of joy will be here in the blink of an eye!

Just quietly, while I know the first year will be tough going, I'm getting excited about meeting this next addition to the family. What dynamics will this baby bring to our lives. How will our 2 year old (3 by the time bubs is born) cope with the change. If she's anything like her father, or her grandfather for that matter, she won't do it well. She seems happy enough to move down into the big girls room which was the first obstacle conquered.

But how will she go once she realises she vacated her room for some wrinkled red faced little alien to take over occupancy? Personally, I think she'll be just fine. I think that at 2 she has already exhibited great displays of adaptability.

The scariest thing I have discovered lately is that by the time this next bub is her age, my beautiful little angel will be at school! She has grown up so quickly and it makes me cherish every time she tells me she's my baby because I know someday soon I'll be an embarrassment to her and I'll be dropping her around the corner so her friends don't see me.

Ah! The circle of life!

Some things I have learned.....

Well we made it! Darwin, surprisingly, was not as hot as home! HA! Imagine that? The first two days were ridiculously hot and humid and, as predicted, the headaches came. But then, on Christmas Eve.........rain!!!!!

And so, for the most part of our stay the temperature dropped and the humidity was bearable. I take it all back. Mother-in-law aside, who seems to forget that there is always a 2 year old around and that museums are not really her strong point at this age. I mean, have you ever seen a 2 year old in awe at a museum? Come on. And then the upset when I refused to visit another museum. And, no, nobody else took my darling daughter off my hands for too long so, basically, I could have done exactly the same thing at home. But.......other than that....... no complaints! We met my brother-in-laws parents who were absolutely wonderful. They were definitely an upside to the visit. They seemed to add an extra barrier to our side of the family. You know those people who just never complain. That's them. They were so much fun and it was sad to see them go.

On one of the last days we were in Darwin we decided we would buy a pie from Tommo's Bakery because, as my husband pointed out, "They had been established for 20 years so they must be good!". So we place our order and ask the lady if she has any small kiddy pies. She told us that they were cold but could be heated in the microwave. No worries. She knew it was for the 2 year old who was screaming "I want my own!!!"

The next thing I know she hands me this bag and says "it's quite hot". Quite hot....who were you kidding lady. It took the rest of our drive to cool it through the airconditioning vents in the car! Meanwhile, our pies were eaten and the 2 year old could not quite understand why we could have ours but there was no way she was getting her hands on that little glowing amber the lady called a pie!

And suddenly I realised that every time I order a meal for my child it comes out hotter than any of the other meals at the table? The adults will be sitting around complaining about lukewarm chips while the kids are doing that Bart Simpson move where they touch the chip and say "ow that's hot" and remove their hand and then do it again and again and again. It's painful to watch. Kids don't want to be patient while their food cools. My daughter says "it's okay I'll blow on it" but if only she could realise that her little pffft doesn't actually do much at this stage considering mummy gets headspins from blowing on the damn chips in the first place.

I would have assumed when one is ordering a 'kids meal' from the menu that it would be fairly apparent as to who that order was for. Do they think I'm ordering the super duper size double beef with the works burger for my kid and just fish pieces and chips for my husband? Hmmmmm....... maybe there is a need to emphasise that the order is for a child.

And now to the really good news.....

Before we left for Darwin I had my 12 week scan, which put me at 13 weeks, and there is really a growing, moving baby in there. All looks good and I got to skip past a whole week. Believe me, for a person with a history of m/c there is nothing better than when they kick you right out of the first trimester and you finally feel like you're in with a chance.

Maybe my dream is really coming true this time. My husband and I will both be able to order a kiddies meal by this time next year!
